The Neston area is served by a railway line and a network of buses.
Timetables are at Neston Town Hall and Neston Library. Rail timetables normally change (slightly) every six months: bus timetables change at unpredictable times.
Neston station lies on the Wrexham to Bidston railway line, The Borderlands Line, run by Arriva Trains Wales. Connections at Shotton are for north Wales, and at Wrexham for Chester, Shrewsbury, and Birmingham: Bidston links with West Kirby and Liverpool. Bus 88 stopped running between Neston and Heswall on 3 September 2017
No. 272 bus runs less than hourly between Ellesmere Port, Willaston and Neston, not evenings or weekends. Download timetable as pdf: here
From 5 September 2016 No. 22 bus runs hourly between Moreton, Hoylake, West Kirby, Arrowe Park Hospital, Heswall, Parkgate, Neston and Chester, not evenings or Sundays. The timetable changed again on 5 May 2017. Download timetable as pdf: here
No. 487 buses run from Ness Gardens to Birkenhead and Liverpool Whitechapel every half hour during the day, leaving Ness Gardens at 6.41, 7.11, 7.41, then 8.16, 8.46 a.m. and so on until 5.16 p.m. In the evenings buses go from Parkgate at 6 and 6.30 p.m. then every hour until 11.30 p.m. On Sundays buses are every two hours from Parkgate at 9.30, and so on up to 10.30 p.m. and 11.26 p.m., and every two hours from Ness Gardens at 10.28 a.m., to 4.28 p.m.
Buses leave Liverpool Sir Thomas Street every half hour from 8 a.m. to 10.30 p.m. Buses leaving Liverpool at 4.30, 5, 5.30 and 6 p.m. go to Neston then Hinderton Rd, Bushell Rd, Mellock Lane, Burton Rd, West Vale, Kenilworth Rd, Greenfields Drive, Marshlands Rd, Burton Rd, The Cross, then Parkgate. In the evenings, buses leave at 6.30 to 10.30 for Neston and Little Neston.
On Sundays buses leave at 9.29 a.m. to 10.29 p.m., alternately for Parkgate or Ness Gardens during the day, and to Parkgate in the evening.
No. 357 runs between Arrowe Park Road via Heswall bus station and Neston High School.
No. 358 runs between Eastham Rake via Thornton Hough and Neston High School.
No. 604 runs from Neston to Chester Catholic High School.
No. 605 runs from Neston to Bishop’ Blue Coat High School, Chester.
If you are aged 80+ or have mobility difficulties, you can use PlusBus, in Neston area and around Chester and Ellesmere Port, Monday to Friday 9 a.m. – 11 p.m., and Sundays 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Phone 0151 357 4420 Monday – Friday 9 – 4.30, or email, one to seven days in advance. Cost £3 single, £5 return. The driver can help carry your shopping on and off the bus.
