NEWSLETTER Friends of Park Fields October 2009 Issue 4 Dear Friends GREAT NEWS – At last, on your behalf, we have succeeded in getting a Management Agreement with Cheshire West and Chester Borough Council to maintain and develop the “Cowfield” to improve the wildlife potential and biodiversity of the land and to increase the use of the land for educational and passive recreation by the local community. Your help and support has been vital in getting us to this significant milestone. Now, as we move to the implementation stage of our plans your continued support and involvement will be even more important to ensure we can continue to protect and enhance the natural beauty of Park Fields. The focus will now be on fund raising to put our plans in place, to arrange for signage, repair and maintenance of the boundaries and to create areas of specific interest such as wild flower meadows and areas to encourage new species of wild birds, small mammals and invertebrates. Links have already been forged with local schools and Liverpool University who will carry out biological surveys and assist with expertise. We very much hope that members will volunteer for what we hope will be a fun range of activities including hedge laying, wild flower and tree planting, observing and monitoring wild life (including “bat & bird” watching evenings and other social events). Together we will make a difference and ensure the long term future of this beautiful open space. As you know, membership numbers are very important, the more members we have the stronger we are as an organisation, which will enable us to raise our profile with the council and to gain access to the necessary funding to manage and maintain the Cowfield. The membership of the Friends of Park Fields has grown and grown we now have over 120 active members, but we would very much like to increase the number further. Please, please, encourage as many of your contacts and friends as you can to join and support our aims. New or potential members are welcome to attend our Annual General Meeting to hear our plans in more detail, and perhaps to get involved. The ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING will be held in the CIVIC HALL at 7.30 pm. On THURSDAY, 15 OCTOBER 2009 – please attend and give us your support. If you would like to get involved, either on the Committee or in a more practical “hands on” way please contact the Secretary of the Friends of Park Fields We are proposing to maintain subscription rates at their existing levels. . Thank you for taking the time to read this Newsletter. We look forward to seeing you on the 15thOctober.
