Neston Town Council Supports Ukrainian Refugees
The following video shows highlights from a Neston Town Council-funded program, Ukrainian Supportive Summer Sessions, which was run by ESOL teacher Liz Hignett and Yoga Teacher Jen Fisher: Ukrainian Summer Sessions Video
Liz Hignett has been working with the Ukrainian refugees since March 2022. Liz is a fully qualified teacher, specialising in ESOL. Listening to the needs and wants of the refugees, she created a bespoke course which gave autonomy to the students. Liz also brought functional language and enthusiasm, along with a wealth of experience in education and community engagement.
Jen Fisher, owner of Willow Mindful Yoga, is a Yoga Teacher with a professional background in mental health, counselling and education. Jen brought passion for well-being, mindfulness and creativity to the sessions.
Jen and Liz’s partnership in these holistic summer sessions made for a highly successful and well attended program. Both are passionate about continuing to work with local refugees and other groups who could benefit from similar programs. They look forward to continuing to work within our community to build connections, offer education and support people’s well-being.
