This page describes current public transport in the Neston area. The Neston area is served by a railway line and a network of buses. Rail timetables normally change (slightly) every December and May. Bus timetables change at unpredictable times.

Trains

Neston station lies on the Wrexham to Bidston railway line; The Borderlands Line. Connections at Shotton are for north Wales, at Wrexham for Chester, Shrewsbury, and Birmingham. Bidston links with West Kirby and Liverpool. Trains run mostly once an hour, less often in evenings and on Sundays. ***From 10 December 2023 TfW run trains every 45 minutes.*** Live train information is available on the National Rail website. Friends of Neston Station are an informal group who help TfW look after the station, gardening, litter-picking and reporting problems.

Buses

Bus 22 runs between Chester, Neston, and Heswall hourly daytime, Monday – Saturday. Now run by Al’s coaches. A downloadable timetable updated April 2022 is available.

No. 487 buses run from Ness Gardens, Little Neston, Neston Centre to Birkenhead and Liverpool Whitechapel every half hour during the day. In the evenings buses go to and from Little Neston (Royal Oak) every hour. On Sundays buses are every two hours from Parkgate all day and every two hours from Ness Gardens daytime only. Buses leave Liverpool Sir Thomas Street. A timetable can be downloaded for the 487 bus service.

No. 272 buses runs less than hourly between Ellesmere Port, Willaston, Hooton Station and Neston, not evenings or weekends. A downloadable timetable updated November 2020 is available.

PlusBus Services

If you are aged 80+ or have mobility difficulties, you can use PlusBus, available in the Neston area and around Chester and Ellesmere Port, Monday to Friday 9 am – 11 pm, and Sundays 9 am – 6 pm. Bookings can be made via phone on 0151 357 4420 Monday – Friday 9 am – 4.30 pm, or via email on cheshire@ectcharity.co.uk, one to seven days in advance. Costs £3 single, £5 return. The driver can help carry your shopping on and off the bus.

Other Services

Ellesmere Port & Neston Community Transport Ltd – Community car scheme with volunteer drivers to help with lifts to Hospital, lunch clubs etc. Bookings are taken in advance. Cheshire Traveline provides timetable information for any bus, rail or coach service serving Cheshire and Warrington: 0871 200 22 33 (Calls cost 10p per minute plus applicable network extras) 7 days a week 8am – 8pm.
