Neston Market Trader of the Year for 2022 awarded at Neston’s Friday Market

This year Neston had a double helping of Friday Christmas Markets, Friday 16th December with fantastic entertainment for the 64 N’Ukes, and Friday 23rd December yet more wonderful entertainment from the Neston Singers, Gabriel Roberts and Gemini who all braved the torrential rain.  Both dates were a perfect opportunity for browsing the regular plus festive additional market stalls, and being entertained by the talented singers and musicians.  There was an extra special guest on Friday 23rd as Santa was able to make a last-minute visit to meet local children, before he dashed off to make his final preparations for Christmas eve.  Children were invited to take part in free trail to help Santa find his missing reindeer with a small prize, provided by Neston Town Council, for each participant.  There was also the opportunity to take a selfie with a very excited ‘Buddy the Elf’ and a very festive ‘Mickey Mouse’.

Trader of the year, Chris from Little Bears Fudgery, with the Mayor

The Neston Market Trader of the Year Award for 2022 was presented to Chris of ‘Little Bears Fudgery’ by The Mayor Neston, Cllr Pat Kynaston. Little Bears Fudgery, a Wirral based family run business, are on the market each week, no matter what the weather. Chris is one of our most supportive traders who always has a smile on his face and time for a quick chat with his many regular customers for the wonderful homemade fudge in various amazing flavours, some of which are vegan, and variety of sweet treats.  The award is very well deserved and the council and market staff would like to congratulate him and his family team.

The markets were a great addition to the festive season, following on from the fantastic Christmas Lights switch on event at the end of November.  The 23rd December was the last market of the year, there will be no market on the 30th December or 6th January, the first market of 2023 will be held on Friday 13th January.  January and February are quiet trading months and some traders do choose to take holidays during this time but most of the regular traders will be there for you.

Councillors would like to thank everyone involved in both markets and indeed the market every Friday – The Market Manager, Nicky McMahon, Markets staff, Traders, entertainers and Customers for all their support in ensuring the market continued trading through a difficult 2022. Special thanks also to Shane (Great British Bakehouse) and Val (Bluebonnet Sweets) for making an excellent job of running the market traders ‘Neston Markets’ Facebook page, and also to Shane for his continued support of the market and for organising the traders advertising initiatives.

Neston Town Councillors & staff wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
